And their nightmare continues…

Yes another comeback win that puts us back in first place and sends Atleti shamelessly back to their hole to ponder on the greatness of the neighbors. The second half of los colchoneros goes to show why their nickname is ‘pathetico madrid’. I really do feel bad for them because it really is a nightmare that never ends… oh well!

Anyway, I want to make things clear that this game does not leave me at all happy. Sure it is always great to beat your city rival and shove it in the faces of your Atleti compadres, but at the end of the day our football is still in question. More importantly the question is can we beat Barcelona with the football we have demonstrated so far? Barca will not be a sea of flimsy legs for us to capitalize on like we did with Atleti. El classico is only two weeks away and I have my doubts if we can match up to los blaugrana.

Our home will always be protected…

“Nuestra casa siempre sera protegida del la sangre rojo y blanca.” This translates into our home will always be protected from the blood of the red and white. -My uncle

Atletico have been waiting for about ten years to conquer the grounds of the Bernabeu and if things go our way they will continue with that desire. However, despite our high stats against our neighbor one must be wary that every jinx must be broken at some point in life. Madrid have experienced this with the exorcism of Raizor this season, and so it makes me wonder when will the day come when Atleti end their curse? Could it be in this fixture?… I hope not! They may have a European spot and their pride riding on this win, but for us those three points are simply golden. Madrid just cannot allow for this to be the year were los colchoneros come out happy from the Bernabeu. No, not this year for our home is sacred and our hunger for the 32nd title is greater than their thirst to finally defeat us. Vikingos a por ellos!!!

*Guti makes the list and Gago will continue to partner up with Xabi, as Lass has failed to recover from his injury. Garay is out which means Sergio will move to the center with Marcelo taking left back. Let us wish Marcelo does not blow this for us!

Video:

This fixture’s video is truly a special one and it really couldn’t be any other way as seeing as this is a derbi. The video dates back to the 1996-1997 season where Capello’s Madrid earned their 27th league title. Madrid won 3-1 against Atletico with a beauty from Raul which reminds you that this man alone represents the greatness behind the Madrid derbi. The other goals came from Hierro with a free kick and to cap the amazing night Mijatovic would score the final goal. There are few things that come close to being as sweet as this because its not every day one wins a title by defeating a historic rival of ours. Enjoy!

Only two points…

Today we stand two points from Barcelona, almost at arms length from the leader, and all thanks to our city ‘rivals’ Atletico Madrid. Amazingly, Atleti did not screw this up and played like I have not seen of them in a very long time. It really did look like they had 11 ‘Cholo’ Simeone’s on the field. They fought for every ball, were organized in the back, and were lethal on the counter attack. They were the Atleti that I had hoped for. The Atleti that when they get motivated are unstoppable and can beat the best (except for Madrid). Sure Barca were slow and almost unrecognizable, but no credit can be taken away from the home team who made the azulgrana look human and feeble.
So yes, unbelievably our little brother has given this league a new and vibrant look. Although the Catalan press may scream ‘We are leaders with a two point advantage’, I say ,’you are leaders with ONLY a two point advantage!’ Maybe they are not panicking now, but surely they can see our shadow looming very close over them, and that must not be a comforting feeling.

*I seem to be experiencing troubles with my computer so it wont be until Tuesday or Wednesday that I can post any type of picture on the site. Sorry!

Vikingo News!: Guti on Sneijder, Atletico’s latest fan, and Valdano the enemy?

  • Guti would never have sold Sneijder. Speaking to Gazetta dello Sport, Guti reveals that if he were in charge at the club he would have never let go of Sneijder, but understands that the club had economical needs and that is why he did. When it came to his comments awhile back on his interest of joining Inter, he clarifies that he said it because Inter are a grand club and two of his best friends play their refering to Wesley and Eto’o. (I puke at the fact that Guti likes Inter Merda!) However, he insist that his future is only in white and hopes to retire at Madrid. The interview closes with Guti’s World Cup dream of giving the assist that leads to the goal which would give Spain their first World Cup. (AS)
  • Van der Vaart  is just the latest madridista to jump on the Atleti bandwagon. It was VDV’s turn to speak to the press and made it clear that after Madrid are finished playing their game in Jerez, he will be an Atleti fan and actually is VERY confident that los colchoneros will beat Barcelona. He also makes note that the game in Jerez will be very important because his family who lives very close to that city will be there to see him. I hope he plays! (Realmadrid.com)

Calladito te ves mas bonito!

  • Valdano is Argentina’s number one enemy…according to El Diego. Ah its always great to hear from Maradona as he always has something interesting to say. Am I right? Well true to his style he lashed out again at Jorge Valdano accusing him of trying to kick out all the Argentine players from the club. Speaking to Estudio Futbol of TyC Sport, an argentine football show, he blasted Valdano saying that he finds it revolting that a fellow Argentine would do that to his compatriot. He adds that Valdano “kicked out Heinze, tried getting rid of Gago, and also wanted Pipita out but couldn’t because he scores more goals than Benzema and Raul.” Well I guess Valdano won’t be invited to Christmas dinner at the Maradona household anytime soon.
