Just as he was being praised for his work against Mallorca, the news hits that Pipita will be out for three weeks due to a grade I-II fibrilar tear on the left femoral bíceps. Is there something in the water?!?! First Van der Vaart and now the beloved Pipita, not to mention all the others who are out. There has to be a reason why so many of our players are getting injured. But anyway, Higuain’s injury could be a real headache for Pellegrini as he will have to choose from Benzema and Raul to replace him. Neither player is having a great moment in front of goal, but it seems Benzema has a slight advantage over Raul. Yesterday, Benzema had sung the blues for his time on the bench, but now a ray of light shines for him to take the spotlight. I will not lie folks, but I am worried. Madrid is going to suffer without him, because those who thought we had Ronaldo-dependencia were wrong. If anything we have Pipita-dependencia, and in San Mames it will show.

Casillas takes the crown again! Yes, the results come from the always dubious  IFFHS (International Federation of Football History and Statistics), but if we really think about there is no one better than Casillas, so they got this one right for once. For two years in a row he has been selected as the best goalkeeper receiving 230 points leaving Buffon behind with 150. After recieving the news this morning, Casillas said the following:

“I’m very happy. Last season wasn’t successful collectively speaking, but it was positive on a personal level. I will continue to work throughout 2010 to stay at the top. It isn’t easy to get there, but it is easier than staying. It is a great responsibility I am ready to assume. I am very happy.”

Congrats to Casillas!  Siempre el numero uno! (full press conference)

Sergio Canales who knocked the wind out of Sevilla this past weekend with two superb goals has become the latest craze in the European scene. Everyone is at pull and tug for the 18-year-old with Chelsea, Barcelona, and Real Madrid (just to name a few) in a chase to get pen to paper. However, Marca reports that Madrid may have an advantage in signing Canales. It is being reported that Madrid have already offered ten days ago  a deal to his father/agent. Furthermore, if the deal were to go through Madrid would allow for Canales to stay with Racing for one more year on loan, so he could keep progressing and maturing. Both AS and Marca assure that Madrid are in the lead to sign the player, but I think this will be an exhausting fight to the finish line with non other than Barcelona . More on Sergio Canales, later in the week.
