Racing v. Madrid: Perfect result before facing Barca

This 2-0 is a fantastic result and I wouldn’t have changed anything from it. Not even our dull performance against a non existant Racing can change my mind that this was the perfect way to head into the ultra important El Classico match. I know many of you would have prefered for Madrid to have bombarded El Sardinero with a shower of goals and hell if our football would have shined it would have been a serious message of authority to the Catalan squad and a confident booster for us. However, I have noticed a pattern that whenever Madrid win by a large margin and get all praise from the press they tend to  get too cocky and end up looking like fools in their next match. It happened after the Sevilla remontada, where we faced Lyon believing that we were all that and instead ended up with cake on our faces. If I recall correctly we had the exact same experiences with Milan and the past season with Barcelona. Trust me, this humble and rather lazy result is what we needed to focus on our strengths and more importantly our weaknesses, and not fall into an ego trip. Our performance against Racing leaves us on our toes wanting to demonstate a more positive image and a greater motivation to show why we are the current leaders of La Liga (even if Alves is in denial). Plus, Racing were never really a measure for us and the most important thing was to come out of  el Sardinero with the three points and with all our players in one piece and injury free.

*Just wanted to add that although Canales had a relatively quiet evening I still find this kid to be a gem. One of the few players who tried to bring his team to life, but Canales lacked the partnership to explode and produce something extra. Moreover, if that vaselina would not have gone wide who knows what the final score would have been. Still, the audacity of the young Canales to bust out with la vaselina against his near  future team  is what leaves me very satisfied and certain that this kid was meant to dress in white.

canales fichado

After a very long meeting between Valdano and Racing’s President Pernia, they have finally closed all negotiations and Sergio Canales will don the white kit. It was decided that Madrid will pay for his services five million euros. As previously mentioned Canales will stay on loan with Racing for the next season, but will do the pre-season with Real Madrid come this summer. Madrid are also considering including a clause that if by chance Madrid were to allow him to play for the 2010-2011 season they could excerisise that right, although they would have to pay Racing a compensation.

El chaval will play with Real Madrid for the next six season and earn 1.5 million euros a year. Great news for Canales especially after the cold bucket of water that was poured on Racing by Atletico. Now we wait for the contract to be made so Canales can sign it. Bueno señores, excelente fichaje, no?

So it is not official yet, but it seems that Canales is already in the bag and will be calling the Bernabeu home soon Marca, AS, and Sport  are reporting that Madrid have reached a verbal agreement for Canales and pretty much  all that is needed is his signature and some other minor details. Racing will receive 6 million euros and just as was expected the 18 year old will remain for one or two more years on loan. He many other options, but when Madrid comes a knockin’ its hard to say ‘no’.

Van Nistelrooy is just about set to leave Madrid. Understandably, Van Gol is looking for minutes in order to take part in his last world cup, and he knows that staying with Madrid he just might miss that flight. Many clubs had shown interest in the veteran striker but it looks like German club Hamburg has obtained his services. Hamburg’s medical staff arrived in Madrid to examine Ruud’s physical state which he has passed and it will only be a matter of hours until Van Gol is announced as Hamburg’s newest player. So sad to see him go, but this is probably the  best for him. Truly a grand professional and an even better person. Mucha suerte crack!

Lastly, Real Madrid have presented today their project to help Haiti after the massive earthquake that hit trapping and killing many. The Real Madrid Foundation and the organization  ‘Acoger y Compartir’ will come together to help rebuild the St. Gerard School in the Carrefour-Feuilles neighborhood of Port-au-Prince. They also have plans to build a football and social academy for children to obtain the proper health and nutrition. Raul, Casillas, and Ramos attented the presentation  of the Project Haiti. Real Madrid President Florentino Perez said the following about the plans to help Haiti:

“Our goal is to help rebuild the future. We have another inherent humanitarian challenge before us which is none other than to rebuild the St. Gerard School, where 300 children were trapped in the rubble. Haiti needs us all and this project is of the utmost importance.”

Another Spanish club that has extended their hand of support to Haiti is Barcelona, who have donated 250,000 euros for Haiti relief. The people of Haiti need all the aid they can get and it is great to see the world of football doing their part to help out.

Sorry for the lack of updates but this madridista has been super busy with school and other important non-soccer related events. Next week should also be crazy, but I promise to bring as much details on Madrid as soon as I can. Ok now that thats out of the way, let’s get to business.

The boys land in Albania looking sharp! This really is not news but simply a friendly to bring in some money to the club. As we speak the team is playing the friendly right now against Gramozi Erseke, and are already losing 1-0. Yeesh! Once again a goal in the first minute. But chill as the boys said in a press conference, they wants the people to have fun at the game. Kaka, Ronaldo, and Raul were in the starting line-up.

CR9 and his dry spell. Its 2010 and Ronaldo still has not seen the back of the net. Now it is not like he hasn’t tried but the boy has not managed to score and show his six-pack since the festival of goal against Zaragoza. However, in that same press conference in Albania, Ronaldo insisted have paciencia!

“I’m not worried about not scoring goals lately. I always work the same way and I don’t get frustrated. I’m sure I’ll score again.”

“I was very happy in Manchester, but I am also happy in Madrid. My family loves the city.”

Canales and Pernia in an event for Racing - via Marca

Finally we speak of wonderkid Canales. As was reported by many of the Spanish press Valdano met up with Racing’s club president Pernia, to see if any sort of deal could be struck up for Sergio Canales. However, Pernia maintained the negotiations did not progress much further. Still, Madrid’s chances of obtaining him is not far from impossible as “el Presi del Racing” assured that Canales likes Madrid’s project. Although he admits that Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City are all in a fight to sign the player, but it is with Madrid that the negotiations are going in the right path. Nonetheless, no matter what club he joins the President has assured that the player will remain with Racing for one to two more years on loan.

Sergio Ramos was also asked about Canales where he stated that maybe now is not the best time for him to join Madrid because it would be hard to find a spot in the starting 11. He added that the best thing would be for him to sign for Madrid and remain on loan with Racing for another couple of years.  Rambo is right on this!
